Local Drama group Compántas Lir began their drama festival run in the dark last Saturday as a bolt of lightening knocked out the power in Kildare town as the group were in final preparations for the play. Compántas Lir, who hail from the Carnmore/Claregalway region, have been rehearsing John B Keanes' The Year of the Hiker and set off for Kildare on Saturday for the first of seven competitive performances which will take them all over the country and conclude with a three night run in the Town Hall, Galway, from the 3rd of April. The group were asked by the adjudicator Tony Rushford, if they were prepared to perform under the dim emergency lights in the auditorium and director Brid Conneely agreed that the cast were prepared. At 9.10, an hour after the play was due to commence, Compántas Lir took to the stage. |

Claregalway/Carnmore Senior citizens held their Christmas Party in the Claregalway Hotel on Sunday 9th Dec.
The proceedings started with Mass in the Church at 3.30 celebrated by Cannon Noel Mullin P.P. The readers were Mary Grealish, Carnmore and Tom Lenihan, Lakeview. The Senior Choir provided the music.
After Mass we headed to the hotel where we got a beautiful meal, after which Mary Moran (Senior) and Kathy Morris cut the cake which was given to us courtesy of the hotel. Each Senior Citizen present received a gift all of which were donated by the local businesses and friends. We had a total of 117 Senior Citizens.
As this was the 25th Senior Citizens Party, some of the original organising Committee are still with us, they were honoured with a token of appreciation.
Atlantic Sound provided the music which had large crowds on the floor.
We were also entertained by two sets of Irish dancers, which was a pleasure to watch. We also had some local singers and entertainers.
Our Monday night gathering resumed on Jan 7th. New members always welcome.
