Newsletter

·         First defibrillator installed in Claregalway Hotel with volunteers trained in its use. CCDA plan is to have 2 more strategically placed in the village with more volunteers trained.  Fundraising for these coming up shortly.

·         27 Page Submission made to Galway County Council for the provision of Recreation & Amenity space, playing pitches and walking routes in Claregalway.

·         Continuing the push to get the bypass (Relief Road) for Claregalway. This is now part of the program for government and for the first time there is a firm proposal document submitted to the Department of Transport.

·         Currently hosting meetings in conjunction with the No Name Club organisation to get a No Name Club established in Claregalway. Parents how many times have you complained that there is nowhere for teenagers to hang out in a safe alcohol and drug free environment in Claregalway. To get this club off the ground the teenagers need adult help.

·         Request made to Galway County Council and the National Roads Authority for the provision of footpaths and street lighting on N18 (Oranmore road) from Business Park on one side of the road past Lakeview junction and from the 3 housing estates on the other side of the road to the village centre.

·         Continuing to work with the School, Parents and Board of Management and Elected Representatives for the provision of more facilities at the school including safe pickup and drop-off areas for the children.

·         Maintenance of the Amenity Space in front of the Nine Arches, jointly funded by Galway County Council and the CCDA.

·         QBC (Quality Bus Corridor) Organised meeting with council officials to improve safety in the village centre. In the short term the QBC will give us safe footpaths and streetlights from Cregboy junction through the village to Kiniska junction. Time will tell whether the QBC is a success or not.

·         Working with Elected Representatives and Galway County Council to speed up provision of wastewater treatment plant to ensure that the work commences in 2008.

·         Meeting with County Council officials to provide better maintenance of the village considering 33,000 vehicles pass through the village each day. This is in addition to the road sweeper, which is used to sweep some of the roads in the village
