The Claregalway Community Development Association (CCDA) has been in existence since Winter 2005 when the group was formed to give a voice to the Community of Claregalway in its own future and development. ![]() Please read the rest of this article to keep up to date with the current work of the CCDA which include work from organising local Heart Defibulators, Nine Arches Upkeep and working closely with the Galway County Council on the QBC, Street Lights, Waste Treatment and School Safety. First defibrillator
installed in Claregalway Hotel with volunteers trained in its use. CCDA plan is
to have 2 more strategically placed in the village with more volunteers
trained. Fundraising for these coming up
shortly. ·
27 Page Submission
made to Galway County Council for the provision of Recreation & Amenity
space, playing pitches and walking routes in Claregalway. ·
Continuing the push
to get the bypass (Relief Road) for Claregalway. This is now part of the program
for government and for the first time there is a firm proposal document
submitted to the Department of Transport. ·
Currently hosting
meetings in conjunction with the No Name Club organisation to get a No Name Club
established in Claregalway. Parents how many times have you complained
that there is nowhere for teenagers to hang out in a safe alcohol and drug free
environment in Claregalway.
To get this club off the ground the teenagers need adult help. ·
Request made to
Galway County Council and the National Roads Authority for the provision of
footpaths and street lighting on N18 (Oranmore road) from Business Park on one
side of the road past Lakeview junction and from the 3 housing estates on the
other side of the road to the village centre. ·
Continuing to work
with the School, Parents and Board of Management and Elected Representatives
for the provision of more facilities at the school including safe pickup and
drop-off areas for the children. ·
Maintenance of the
Amenity Space in front of the Nine Arches, jointly funded by Galway County
Council and the CCDA. ·
QBC (Quality Bus Corridor)
Organised meeting with council officials to improve safety in the village
centre. In the short term the QBC will give us safe footpaths and streetlights
from Cregboy junction through the village to Kiniska junction. Time will tell
whether the QBC is a success or not. ·
Working with Elected Representatives
and Galway County Council to speed up provision of wastewater treatment plant
to ensure that the work commences in 2008. · Meeting with County Council officials to provide better maintenance of the village considering 33,000 vehicles pass through the village each day. This is in addition to the road sweeper, which is used to sweep some of the roads in the village
