Church collections this weekend for Abalta PDF Print E-mail

Take a moment to read this letter from one of the parents involved with Ábalta, who have a church gate collections going on all over Galway city and County this weekend. Perhaps you can help or at least support their collection.

I write as one of the parents of 18 parents of children with autism who attend Ábalta Special School in Laurel Park, Newcastle & Bishop O’Donnell Road, Cuan Glas Galway. Ábalta

Ábalta was founded by parents over 7 years ago, it  is only partially funded by government, its pupils come from all parts of Galway City & County, the school has grown from 4 pupils to 18 pupils with a waiting list of between 25-30 children.

Its teaching method  (Applied Behavioural Analysis – ABA), is new, innovative and starting to be recognised to some degree by the state, but has a long way to go.

When you speak to other parents, they are very happy with the progress their children are making through ABA., with the help of the dedicated Tutors & Teacher who help to make the successes happen – our children are more happier, more communicative, more in control of their behaviours and can communicate their needs,  some of our past pupils now attend mainstream schools, which was thought not to be possible in the past.

– this is all positive, but to keep this going we desperately need support to fund the resources that keep this school running.

We have to meet an annual  Salary & overhead budget of over €1million per year.

We were lucky,  to receive news of the opportunity to take up permits for  church collections over Galway city & county on

Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th February  for over 100 churches in county Galway and included in this is around a dozen churches in Galway City.

As we are only 18 sets of parents and some of us are very hands on as carers to our special needs children, we are seeking help from Galway people through Galway clubs, societies and people like yourselves and individual volunteers to help us out with conducting these church collections.

This may be a tall order and difficult for ourselves as proud parents to be asking  but any help offered to assist with these church collections would be greatly appreciated.

May I enquire also if you know of any other contacts that may assist us with this task.

Thank you in anticipation
