A big thank you to all who supported our recent “night at the dogs” fund raising draw.
Check out our photos from the night along with the presentations to the Prize Winners.
We are now in a position to advance some projects for the benefit of the community.
The first project is the defibrillator project. There are now 2 defibrillators located in the village. One is located in the Claregalway Hotel and the other is located in the Community Centre. We have just appointed 2 instructors who will be undergoing specialist training in the next few months. This concept is known as “train the trainer”. This will allow us to offer training to any members of the community who wish to be trained at a very nominal cost. Our plan is to start training the community after the summer holidays. Full details on this later!
We are also promoting Tidy Towns in the village and to this end we have two projects that will enhance the village. The first is we are extending the hanging baskets that proved so popular last summer which were on the bridge over the River Clare and also at the Nine Arches. Our plan is to hang baskets on some of the ESB poles in the village. We are also planning a cleanup of the village just before the Volvo Ocean race hits Galway. We have asked Galway County Council to remove the grass and weeds along the roads and footpaths in the village. This is our contribution to making Claregalway more attractive to the residents, tourists and all who pass through the village. Many people remarked how well the village looked at Christmas with the addition of the Christmas lights on one side of the village. We are currently in negotiation with the ESB to allow us to extend the Christmas lights to the other side of the street. This will give more balance to the lights and will make Claregalway more attractive at Christmas.
In the last few days we have seen the opening of Phase 2 of the QBC. We are working with the County Council on the planning of Phase 3 (the bit in the middle of the village) so that the wishes of the residents and road users are taken into account. We have succeeded in getting the council to install 5 extra street lights in the section between the bridge and the hotel which will make walking from the start of the QBC at Cregboy to the other end at Kiniska much safer.
We are continuing to work all the other projects we outlined in our leaflet which we distributed to householders during our fundraising campaign.
Once again thanks to all who supported us. Vincent Lyons Chairman
